5 Signs Your Yard Has a Drainage Problem

WATER MITIGATION

Drainage problems rarely start big. They start subtle.

Here are the warning signs homeowners in the Triad ignore too long:

  1. Standing water 24 hours after rain

  2. Muddy areas that never fully dry

  3. Water flowing toward your foundation

  4. Washed-out gravel edges

  5. Grass that dies in certain sections

Water follows gravity. If your yard slopes the wrong direction, no amount of landscaping will fix it.

Most drainage fixes fall into one of three categories:

  • Regrading

  • Diversion swales

  • French drain systems

But installing drains without correcting slope first is a mistake.

If you’re unsure what’s happening on your property, send photos and note when the issue shows up (heavy rain vs light rain).
